We've been absent for awhile.....

Not actually MIA, just busy with the new venture.  So while SlimShadeez is strictly an online/ecommerce site selling no headache visors that attach to you sunglasses, I've also opened a new storefront in downtown Renton Washington which is a completely different type of business.  It's called Arts-n-Carafes and the elevator speech is primarily Painting and Sipping.  You'll have to check it out.  Arts-n-Carafes website

Now in THREE foreign countries

It's so exciting to add another country.  Canada, Australia and now the UK.  We're GLOBAL.  Woo hooooo!

Thinking about another venture....

I've have an idea to open a local retail business in the town that I live in.  I'm finding in just the ground floor stages how difficult it is for businesses to start up.

The Washington State liquor board requires a tavern license even if you don't sell or serve alcohol just to allow a person to drink a glass of wine from a bottle they brought in to a closed door session.

Next, with all the of the commercial buildings that are empty it seems to me that landlords could rent/lease a lot more buildings if they didn't require 5 year leases.  That's like marrying someone on a first date.   The very first leasing company I called was condescending and told me that the rent would be prohibitive to my concept.   Thanks for your enthusiasm Amy A....

We'll keep plugging along though.  Right now we're about 3 on a scale of 10.  Lot's more research to do!

Top 10 states in order of sun? Maybe just in order of liking visors...

Starting from the bottom:
10) Michigan
9) Arizona
8) Virginia
7) Washington
6) Pennsylvania
5) Ohio
4) New York
3) Illinois
2) Texas

And the winner is.................
CALIFORNIA!  (No big surprise there huh?)

And gosh darn - we're still 5 states away from saying we're sold in all 50 states.  I don't see Arkansas, North Dakota, Idaho, Minnesota and one more which I'll have to figure out.

Not just for seniors - what to look for in a pair of sunglasses

You only get two eyes - and while it seems in your youth, you'll always have great vision, the fact is that the environment takes a toll on health and eyesight.  Do what you can to protect your vision.  It's well worth the time.

SlimShadeez' concept to kickstart the economy

We keep hearing that if we just bought $3.00 extra in American made products, we could create 10,000 jobs.  Rather than putting tariffs on imported products, SlimShadeez thinks that anything we buy that is American made, you should be able to deduct off your income taxes and you only have to pay 1/2 of the sales tax that you normally would.  Consumers would save money, buy more American made products, create more jobs and in the long run, that would stimulate the economy and end up generating more revenue to run the government from.  It's a win, win, win win!!!

Thank you to all my online customers

Thank you so much!  We passed last year's total sales relying primarily on online orders vs. wholesale and festivals.  SlimShadeez did 3 festivals this year.  The first was a Garden Show at Tukwila and was a very small festival but was worth going to.  The next one was the Wooden Boat Festival at Lake Union and the 3rd was Covington Days.  The traffic at both festivals were less than desirable.  At Lake Union, they put all the vendors so far away from the foot traffic that all the vendors were unhappy.  If you are a retail vendor, I advise against the Wooden Boat Festival at Lake Union.

The weather was uncooperative at Covington Days and the advertising was also less than optimum.  Another festival I will not be doing again.  Kent Cornucopia Days has been the best so far and I recommend it for the entrance fee/ROI.

Again, thank you to all who have found SlimShadeez Sunglasses Visors online.  While we're not retiring anytime soon - it is a nice feeling to have sales go up instead of flat or down in this economy.

Cheers!

Do you ever wonder who you're actually buying from?

Who is SlimShadeez?  It's me!  Here's a video of the family.  Husband, son and daughter-in-law (From KC) that came out in mid-July for a visit.  Yes, it was actually nice!   (The weather was nice I mean - it's always nice to have my family come visit)

My SlimShadeez fit pertectly with my segway helmet! SlimShadeez family from KC comes for a visit

SlimShadeez Summertime ramblings...

Learned a lesson this summer....July is STILL not summer in Seattle!  My two festivals this year were a pretty much a bust.  Brrrr... cold and rainy.  I found out the reason things are scheduled the last week of July is because historically, that is the best chance of having dry weather.  Note to self - NO MORE FESTIVALS until at least the last weekend in July.  If I was in Palm Desert, I wouldn't be having this conversation with myself!

The sunglasses visors have actually sold pretty well just on the website this year.  The other product invented out of necessity - the soft fleece multiple eyeglasses case - has been doing well too.  I know there's lots of people out there that had RK surgery back in the day and didn't realize how the was going to make their eyesight fluctuate so much from morning to evening as the aging process keeps ticking on.  Without doing some major corneal surgery, the best thing is the ability to have several pairs of eyeglasses in my purse without having to have several heavy glasses cases floating around in there too!

If you haven't looked at the colors lately, I've got the "Made in America" and another that's not yet put on the online store - black background with little doggie paw prints on them.  Cute Cute!  If you love your pooch (actually, can pass for feline paws too) these are cuter than a bug's ear!
